2018 Mar 1

Michaela Matthys, a native of Wonder Lake, IL, and graduate of McHenry Community High School, is one of three members of the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's swimming and diving team to receive invitations to compete at the 2018 NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championships on March 21-24 in Indianapolis, Ind.

Senior Michaela Matthys (Crystal Lake, Ill./McHenry West), now a three-year national qualifier, earned a spot in the 100-yard butterfly with a season-best time of 55.97, good for 14th overall. She is also an optional entry in the 100-yard breaststroke, where she ranks 36th among qualifiers with a 1:07.50, and the 50-yard freestyle, where she is 37th with a 23.87.

Freshman Jessica Lenhart (Buffalo Grove, Ill./Stevenson) joins Matthys in the 100 fly with a career-best result of 56.32, good for 19th. She also qualified in the 200-yard butterfly with her personal record time of 2:04.45, good for 19th. Lenhart is also an optional entry in the 500-yard freestyle, where she ranks 36th among qualifiers with a 5:09.55.

Junior Erin Hawker (Chanhassen, Minn./Hutchinson) will compete in the 200-yard individual medley, 400-yard individual medley and 200-yard breaststroke. She owns a top time of 2:06.27 in the 200 IM, 4:33.64 in the 400 IM and 2:22.34 in the 200 breast. Hawker was originally an alternate in the 200 IM and now adds optional entries in the 400 IM and 200 breast with her qualification.

All three swimmers helped the Warhawks tie the program's best-ever finish at the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships, where the team placed second.

Matthys is a two-time All-American, placing 13th in the 100 fly and 15th in the 400-yard medley relay in 2015. This season, she claimed four more WIAC championships to increase her career total to nine.

Lenhart picked up five conference titles, including three in the events she qualified for nationally.

Hawker was named WIAC Women's Swimmer of the Meet after sweeping the IM races and claiming three other conference titles in relays. She also finished as conference runner-up in the 200 breast.
