2017 Mar 1

Brooke Trewyn, a native of Whitewater, WI, and graduate of Whitewater High School, is one of three members of the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's basketball team to garner All-Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference accolades based on their performances during the 2016-17 season.

Junior guards Malia Smith (Bolingbrook, Ill./Neuqua Valley) and Brooke Trewyn (Whitewater, Wis./Whitewater) earned first team honors, while senior guard Reilly Stewart (Wheaton, Ill./North) was named honorable mention. Smith was also selected to the WIAC All-Defensive Team for the second consecutive season.

All three players helped the Warhawks capture the program's first-ever WIAC Tournament championship and the team's ninth appearance in the NCAA Division III Championship in the last 10 years. UW-Whitewater enters the national tournament with a 22-5 record and finished second in the conference during the regular season with a 10-4 league record.

Trewyn currently leads the WIAC in scoring with 15.0 points per game and leads the team and ranks fourth in the conference with 6.9 rebounds per contest. She also ranks among the top five in the league in assists (62), free-throw percentage (79.3) and steals (48).

Trewyn is a two-time WIAC Player of the Week selection.

Smith, who was an honorable mention all-conference honoree in 2015-16, leads the conference with 74 steals (2.74 per game) and is ninth in scoring at 12.3 points per contest. She also ranks second in the WIAC in free-throw percentage (81.7) and tied for fifth in assists (62). Smith's 40 assists in conference games only rank second in the league.

Stewart has proven to be one of the top shooters in the WIAC this season. She leads the conference in 3-pointers made (47) and ranks second in 3-point field goal percentage (42.0), fourth in free-throw percentage (80.8) and 10th in field goal percentage (41.3). Stewart ranks third on the team with 10.7 points per game.

Sophomore Emily Kraft was named the Warhawks' representative on the WIAC All-Sportsmanship Team.

UW-Whitewater faces 18th-ranked Hope (Mich.) this Friday at 4 p.m. Central Time in the first round of the NCAA Division III Championship at Thomas More College in Crestview Hills, Ky. With a win, the Warhawks would advance to play in Saturday's second round at 5:30 p.m. Central Time against the winner of the Eureka (Ill.)/No. 3 Thomas More first-round game.
