Whitewater Native Dawson Miller Named National Athlete of the Week

2014 Oct 29

Dawson Miller, a senior on the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's cross country team, has been selected NCAA Division III Men's Athlete of the Week by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association, the organization announced Monday, Oct. 27.

A native of Whitewater, Wis., Miller was later named Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Men's Cross Country Athlete of the Week for his performance.

Miller placed first out of 59 runners in the 8-kilometer race at the Oshkosh Open Friday at Lake Breeze Golf Club in Winneconne, Wis. His time of 26:05.97 was more than 15 seconds faster than the runner-up. His time was also one of just four times under 27 minutes at the meet.

Miller's first career race victory helped the Warhawks win the meet. It was his fifth career finish in the top five at a meet.

The team's top runner at each event so far this season, Miller has helped lead UW-Whitewater to four top-seven team finishes. Individually, Miller has placed in the top 35 in each race. He finished fifth of 532 runners earlier this season with a personal-best mark of 25:06.2, the 17th-fastest time in school history, at the Brissman-Lundeen Invite.

Miller and the Warhawks compete this Saturday at the WIAC Championship in La Crosse, Wis., starting at noon.
