2018 Feb 28

Andrea Meinert, a native of West Bend, WI, graduate of Kettle Moraine Lutheran High School and senior on the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's basketball team, was one of three Warhawks to earn All-Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference accolades based on their performances during the season, and head coach Keri Carollo has been named WIAC Coach of the Year.

Senior guards Malia Smith (Bolingbrook, Ill./Neuqua Valley), Brooke Trewyn (Whitewater, Wis./Whitewater), and senior forward Andrea Meinert (West Bend, Wis./Kettle Moraine Lutheran) earned first team honors. Smith was selected to the All-Defensive team for the third year in a row.

Carollo is now a three-time WIAC Coach of the Year, last earning the honor in 2014.

All three players helped UW-Whitewater's first ever sweep of the WIAC regular season and tournament championships, as well as the team's 10th appearance in the NCAA Division III Championship in the last 11 years. The Warhawks finish with a 24-3 record and finished on top of the conference during the regular season with a 12-2 record.

Trewyn leads the team and is sixth in the conference with 13.0 points per game. She also leads the team in rebounds and is ninth in the league at 6.2 per contest. Trewyn is first in the league in steals per game (2.56) and is among the top five in the league for free throw percentage (82.0).

Trewyn is now a two-time first team all-conference honoree.

Smith, who is a three-year all-conference member, is among the top ten in the league for scoring at 11.1 points per contest. She is among the top five in the WIAC for free throw percentage (78.5), 3-point field goal percentage (41.8) and steals (2.04).

Meinert leads the Warhawks and is among the top ten in the league for field goal percentage at 43.2 percent and averages 9.4 points per game. She ranks fourth in the lead for offensive rebounds at 2.44 per contest.

Carollo earned her 300th career win on Jan. 3 against UW-Oshkosh and is the only fourth coach in WIAC history to reach this milestone. Carollo, in her 16th year with this team, has led UW-Whitewater to five conference championships, two WIAC Tournament titles, 10 NCAA Tournament appearances and three Final Four appearances.

Sophomore guard Becky Raeder (Sheboygan Falls, Wis./Sheboygan Falls) was the Warhawks' representative on the WIAC All-Sportsmanship Team.

The Warhawks host the first two rounds of the NCAA tournament and will face UW-Superior this Friday at 7 p.m. With a win, UW-Whitewater would advance to play in Saturday's second round at 7 p.m. against the winner of the Rose-Hulman (Ind.)/Gustavus Adolphus (Minn.) first-round game.
