2017 Nov 29

Marie Lesperance, a native of Waukesha, WI, graduate of Waukesha South High School and member of the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's soccer team, was one of three Warhawks who were selected to the All-North Region First Team by the United Soccer Coaches.

Senior midfielder Marie Lesperance (Waukesha, Wis./South), junior defender Payton DeLuga (Algonquin, Ill./Dundee Crown) and freshman forward Anna Boyd (De Pere, Wis./De Pere) garnered first team accolades. Lesperance finishes her career as a two-time first team honoree, while DeLuga and Boyd are both first time all-region honorees.

Lesperance, DeLuga and Boyd, who were all tabbed first team All-Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, helped the Warhawks finish the 2017 with a 14-4-4 record, including a 4-2-1 mark in the WIAC. After reaching the WIAC Tournament championship match, the team earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Division III Championship, the program's seventh consecutive appearance in the national tournament.

Lesperance tallied four goals and two assists for 10 points in 20 matches played (all starts). She tied for fourth in the conference with three game-winning goals and finished her career with 28 goals and 17 assists, tied for the eighth-most in school history. Lesperance's 73 career points are the ninth most in the program record book.

DeLuga started all 22 of the team's matches and anchored the central defense for UW-Whitewater, which allowed only 0.73 goals per match and 16 goals overall, tied for the third-fewest in one season in program history. She added one goal and one assist for three points and played 1,881 minutes, most on the team.

Boyd finished her outstanding rookie campaign ranked among the top five in the conference in points (27), goals (11) and shots (68) and added five assists, good for a tie for eighth in the league. She finished with three game-winning goals, which tied for fourth in the WIAC. Boyd collected one goal and one assist in the team's WIAC Tournament semifinal win over UW-Oshkosh on Nov. 2.
