Waukesha native Marie Lesperance earns WIAC Athlete of the Week

Marie Lesperance, a Waukesha native and student-athlete at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, has been selected as an Athlete of the Week by the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

Women's Soccer - Offense

Marie Lesperance, a freshman midfielder, recorded her first collegiate hat trick in just 32 minutes of play in an 8-0 win over Marian last week. Lesperance tallied her first goal in the third minute, second in the 11th, and third in the 56th. She totaled four shots in the game, three on goal. The Warhawks concluded their regular season with a 17-2 record overall and a 14-game winning streak.

Men's Diving

Keefer Kuhl, a junior, won both diving events he participated in Saturday in UW-Whitewater's 176-61 triumph at Luther (Iowa). He took the 1-meter dive with a score of 260.86, and won the 3-meter event with a 239.55. Kuhl's score in the 1-meter was the best of his career.

Women's Swimming

Michaela Matthys, a freshman competing in her first college meet, won two individual events and one relay to help the Warhawks defeat Luther (Iowa) 144-99 on the road Saturday. She set a school record in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 58.37, beating her closest competition by nearly three seconds. Matthys also won the 50-yard freestyle in 25.17 and was a part of the team's winning 200-yard medley relay team, which posted a mark of 1:49.72.

Volleyball-Offense

Ariel Feiertag, a senior right side hitter, led the UW-Whitewater Warhawks to a 2-1 record last week. She pounded down 3.64 kills per set including 14 kills in 33 attempts with just four errors against #8 UW-Stevens Point. Against UW-Eau Claire, Feiertag posted 12 kills while committing just one error in 19 attempts, an attack percentage of .579. In the final match of the week, Feiertag registered 13 kills in a 3-0 sweep of UW-Superior. She totaled 40 kills in 78 attempts while committing just 10 errors in 11 sets played, an attack percentage of .385. Feiertag also led the Warhawks defensively at the net with 1.18 blocks per set with a total of 13 in three matches to help UW-Whitewater secure a share of the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference title.
