UW-Whitewater's Strupp to Compete at NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships

2016 Mar 8

Amanda Strupp, a native of Slinger, Wis., and member of the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater track and field program, is one of seven Warhawks who will compete in seven events this weekend at the 2016 NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships at Grinnell College in Grinnell, Iowa.

Sophomores Robert Starnes (Green Bay, Wis./Preble) and Parker Witt (Appleton, Wis./North) will participate in two events each on the men's side. Senior Zach Stockheimer (Mukwonago, Wis./Mukwonago), junior Levi Perry (East Moline, Ill./United Township) and sophomore Theron Baumann (Monona Grove, Wis./Monona Grove) qualified for one throwing event apiece, while sophomore Cameron MaGee (Richland Center, Wis./Ithaca) earned an invitation in the high jump.

Junior Amanda Strupp (Slinger, Wis./Slinger) will represent the women's team, earning a spot in the weight throw.

Starnes is ranked No. 1 in Division III in both the high jump (7-00.25/2.14 meters) and the long jump (24-00.25/7.32 meters). A three-time All-American and the defending outdoor national champion in the high jump, Starnes claimed the WIAC indoor championship in the high jump. He holds the school record in the indoor high jump.

Witt enters the championship meet with the top time in the 200-meter dash (21.86) and the No. 4 result in the 60-meter dash (6.84). He tallied both at the WIAC Indoor Championships on Feb. 26-27, winning the 200 and placing third in the 60. Witt qualified in the 100- and 200-meter dash events for the 2015 outdoor meet.

Baumann is a two-time All-American in the shot put. He enters the week sixth with a season-best mark of 55-05.50 (16.90 meters). Baumann is the school record holder in the shot put both indoors and outdoors.

Stockheimer and Perry join Baumann as qualifying throwers, each earning a place in the weight throw. Stockheimer, a national outdoor qualifier in the hammer throw in 2015, ranks fifth with a career best mark of 59-11.75 (18.28 meters). Perry, a first-time qualifier, is 10th with a personal record 58-11.25 (17.96 meters).

MaGee joins Starnes in the high jump. He secured his berth at the national championship with a mark of 6-09.50 (2.07 meters) at the UW-Platteville Final Qualifying Meet last Friday.

On the women's side, Strupp enters the meet ranked sixth in the nation in the weight throw. She posted a career-best toss of 58-03.00 (17.75 meters) at the Warhawk Classic Invitational and Multi on Jan. 30.

Strupp is majoring in psychology.
