2015 Jul 7

Stephanie Stair, a native of Milton, Wis., and member of the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater golf team, was one of four Warhawks selected as 2014-15 All-American Scholars by the Women's Golf Coaches Association.

Seniors Sarah Bregant (Sussex, Wis./Hamilton), Sammie Leibham (Sheboygan, Wis./North), Kate Winkler (Kewaskum, Wis./Kewaskum) and sophomore Stephanie Stair (Milton, Wis./Milton) garnered All-American Scholar accolades. Bregant and Leibham are now three-time honorees.

A total of 758 student-athletes from NCAA and NAIA institutions around the nation were named to the team. Players must have maintained a minimum 3.5 grade point average on a 4.0 scale to be an All-American Scholar.

All four players helped the Warhawks to six top-five finishes in 2014-15, including a pair of runner-up finishes.

Bregant, Leibham and Winkler were all 2014-15 Chancellor's Scholar-Athletes.

Bregant, who graduated with a bachelor's in public policy and administration, averaged 90.5 strokes per 18-hole round, good for sixth on the team, in 2014-15. She was an active volunteer and member of UW-Whitewater Student Government, College Democrats, the American Association of University Women and the Water Council. Bregant also served as a representative on the City of Whitewater Common Council.

Leibham, a two-time All-Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference selection, led the team in scoring average at 83.4 during the season. She was named WIAC Women's Golf Athlete of the Week for Aug. 25-31 and carded a school record 73 in the first round of the UW-Whitewater Spring Fling (April 17-18). Leibham volunteered in several initiatives and was a member of the Student Safety Organization, Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and Society of Safety Engineers. She graduated with a degree in occupational safety.

Winkler graduate with a bachelor's in integrated science and business. She finished fifth on the team in scoring average (89.8) and fired a career-best 36-hole score of 167 (83-84) to close her career at the UW-Whitewater Spring Fling on April 17-18. Winkler was active in the Greek community and served as a member of UW-Whitewater Student Government, SAAC and the Water Council.

Stair made an immediate impact in her first season with the Warhawks after transferring from Ashford (Iowa) University. She placed third on the team with an 85.8 scoring average and recorded her best performance of the year on Aug. 29-30 at the Tournament on the Border, tying for fifth with a season-best 36-hole tally of 159 (78-81). Stair placed 12th at the WIAC Championship on Oct. 3-5. She is majoring in social work.

The golf team earned the highest GPA of any women's team in the UW-Whitewater athletics department during the 2014-15 academic year.
