UW-Whitewater's Humphreys to Compete at NCAA Women's Tennis Individual Tournament

2016 May 19

Megan Humphreys, a native of Kenosha, WI, and member of the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's tennis team, is one of three Warhawks who will compete at the 2016 NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Championship, which will take place May 26-28 at Stowe Stadium in Kalamazoo, Mich.

Junior Megan Humphreys (Kenosha, Wis./Tremper) has been selected to participate in both the 32-player singles draw and the 16-team doubles field. She and sophomore Bridgid McGuire (Slinger, Wis./Slinger) will represent the Warhawks in doubles play.

Freshman Gabi Kitchell (Wausau, Wis./D.C. Everest) was also named to the singles draw.

All three helped lead the Warhawks to the NCAA Team Tournament. UW-Whitewater hosted a seven-team regional and finished its season in the third round for the second straight season and fourth time in the last five years.

Humphreys is a three-time Intercollegiate Tennis Association singles All-American. She competed last season in the NCAA Individual Tournament singles draw, reaching the first round.

Humphreys enters NCAA play with a 26-7 record competing exclusively at the No. 1 singles position. She owns three wins over fellow national qualifiers and is ranked fourth in the Central Region and fifth in the nation by the ITA.

Humphreys and McGuire are the Warhawks' fifth doubles team to qualify for the doubles draw in program history. The duo is 31-4 playing together this season, and is ranked No. 1 in the Central Region and No. 16 in the nation by the ITA.

Kitchell holds an incredible 39-1 singles record entering NCAA play. Her lone loss came on September 27 in the singles final of the USTA/ITA Midwest Region Championship against Humphreys.

Kitchell is ranked eighth in the Central Region and 17th in NCAA Division III by the ITA.

The selection of teams and individuals is based on win-loss record, strength of schedule and eligibility and availability of student-athletes.

Draws for the individual championships will be released on the last day of the team championship, which is set for May 23-25.

Humphreys is majoring in elementary education at UW-Whitewater.
