UW-Whitewater's Humphreys Selected to NCAA Men's Tennis Individual Tournament

2016 May 19

Jake Humphreys, a native of Kenosha, WI, and senior on the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's tennis team,

has been named a singles qualifier for the 2016 NCAA Division III Men's Tennis Championship, which will take place May 26-28 at Stowe Stadium in Kalamazoo, Mich.

Humphreys has now been selected to the 32-man draw in each of the last three years. He reached the second round in 2014 and became the program's first-ever quarterfinalist in 2015.

A three-time singles All-American, including twice in the NCAA Tournament, Humphreys enters the 2016 postseason with a 12-10 singles record playing exclusively at the No. 1 position. He is currently on a four-match winning streak and is ranked eighth in the Central Region and 20th in the nation by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association.

Humphreys helped lead the Warhawks to the NCAA Team Tournament. The team reached the third round of the tournament for the second time in program history.

Humphreys won his most recent match-up against a fellow NCAA singles qualifier. He avenged a loss earlier in the season against Coe's Brady Anderson with a 6-2, 6-3 victory over the Kohawks' top player on May 1 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

The selection of individuals for the championships is based on win-loss record, strength of schedule and eligibility and availability of student-athletes.

The draw for the individual championship will be released on Wednesday, May 25.

Humphreys is majoring in accounting at UW-Whitewater.
