UW-Whitewater's Humphreys Named WIAC Player of the Year

2015 Nov 4

Junior Megan Humphreys, a native of Pleasant Prairie, WI, and member of the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's tennis team, was selected 2015 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Year.

Humphreys, a graduate of Kenosha Tremper High School, earned her second WIAC Player of the Year award in a row. She won the No. 1 singles and doubles draws at last week's conference championship tournament.

Humphreys was integral in helping the Warhawks claim their ninth consecutive WIAC championship and win all nine tournament draws (three doubles, six singles) for just the fourth time in league history.

Humphreys finished the fall with a 19-2 singles record and an 18-3 doubles mark. She placed fifth at the United States Tennis Association/Intercollegiate Tennis Association National Small College Championships in the Division III singles draw. Humphreys garnered All-America accolades in singles after winning the USTA/ITA Midwest Region Championship singles flight for the third straight year.

Last spring, Humphreys qualified for the NCAA Individual Tournament in singles for the first time in her career. She is majoring in elementary education.

By winning the conference title, the Warhawks will host the WIAC Final Four AQ Tournament in April to determine the winner of the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.

UW-Whitewater begins the spring season March 12 with matches against Wartburg (Iowa) and Augustana (Ill.) in Rock Island, Ill.
