UW-Whitewater's Denu Named Academic All-American by CoSIDA
2015 Jun 23
Senior Jared Denu, a Waunakee, WI, native and member of the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater track and field program, was selected Capital One Academic All-America by the College Sports Information Directors of America for the 2014-15 academic year.
Shelby Mahr (Boyd, Wis./Stanley-Boyd), a member of the women's program, was named to the first team. She was a third team honoree in 2013-14. Mahr carried a 3.97 cumulative grade point average on a 4.0 scale and graduated with a bachelor's in special education.
Jared Denu (Waunakee, Wis./Waunakee), a standout on the men's team, earned second team accolades. He maintained a 3.65 cumulative GPA and will graduate in December with a degree in accounting.
Both Mahr and Denu were tabbed Academic All-District by CoSIDA last month, receiving Academic All-America consideration by virtue of their selection.
Mahr wrapped up her decorated four-year career last month at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Championships, earning two more All-America medals to finish with nine for her career. She finished as national runner-up in the discus throw with the No. 9 mark in NCAA Division III outdoor history.
For her career, Mahr is a seven-time All-Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference honoree and holds four school records in throwing events. She is a two-time winner of the WIAC Judy Kruckman Scholar-Athlete Award and was actively involved as a volunteer with Reading With The Warahwks, Project Linus and Best Buddies.
Denu concluded his accomplished career as an eight-time All-WIAC and four-time All-America honoree, and was a part of two WIAC indoor championship 4x400-meter relay teams. He holds three school records and one Williams Center (indoor) record.
An active volunteer in Reading With The Warhawks and as a tutor and exam proctor, Denu won the NCAA Elite 89 Award at the 2013 NCAA Indoor Championships.
