2016 May 18

Caitlin Catino, a native of Arlington Heights, IL, and member of the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater softball team, was one of four Warhawks selected to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-Great Lakes Region teams.

Sophomore Mallory Klotz (New Berlin, Wis./West) and freshman Caitlin Catino (Arlington Heights, Ill./Buffalo Grove) earned second team honors, while freshmen Emily Rux (Chicago, Ill./Mother McAuley) and Julia Camardo (Arlington Heights, Ill./Buffalo Grove) were named to the third team.

Klotz, a third team All-Region selection last season, led the team in batting average (.368), at bats (144), and hits (53) this season. She also tied for the team lead in runs scored (41) and triples (3). She racked up seven doubles, one homer, 13 RBIs and eight stolen bases. The WIAC honorable mention pick started every game in left field and led off 42 of 43 games for the Warhawks. She also recorded single-game career highs in hits (4), RBIs (3), walks (3) and at-bats (6).

Catino, a First Team All-WIAC selection, burst onto the scene as the everyday centerfielder for the Warhawks. In most games she was second in the lineup and she ended her freshman season with a .365 batting average, 137 at-bats, 50 hits, four homeruns and a .428 on base percentage. She tied for the team lead in runs scored with Klotz, and led the team with a .533 slugging percentage and eleven stolen bases.

Rux finished a strong freshman season with a .341 batting average, third highest on the team. Rux earned the start at shortstop in all of UW-W's 43 games this season. She led the team in RBIs (37) and sacrifice hits (15). Rux totaled 129 at-bats, 44 hits, 25 runs scored, four doubles and three homeruns during her freshmen campaign.

Camardo finished her freshman season with a 1.94 ERA in 162.1 innings pitched. The First Team All-WIAC selection struck out 170 batters, the third most in one season in school history. She tallied 15 of those strikeouts in a 4-0 win over UW-Platteville on April 13. Camardo also threw a one-hitter in a 2-0 win over UW-La Crosse in the WIAC Tournament and followed it up a day later by tossing thirteen innings in a 2-1 victory in the championship game. She finished her first year with an 18-6 record, 17 complete games, four shutouts and two saves.

The Warhawks finished the 2016 season with a 29-14 record, a WIAC Tournament Championship, and an appearance in the NCAA Division III Tournament. This was their fourth straight appearance in the NCAA tournament and 19th in school history.

Catino is majoring in business at UW-Whitewater.
