UW-Whitewater's Brodman Earns Academic All-America

Joseph Brodman, a native of Tiffin, OH, and member of the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater wrestling team, was one of three Warhawks to earn Scholar All-America honors from the National Wrestling Coaches Association, the organization announced at the NCAA Championships over the weekend.

The Warhawks were one of the top 40 schools in Division III for team GPA with a 3.05. UW-Whitewater just concluded their season this past weekend finishing tied for 23rd at the NCAA Division III Championships.

To go along with the team award, senior Tom Gerszewski (Crystal Lake, Ill./Crystal Lake South), junior Joseph Brodman (Tiffin, Ohio/Calvert) and freshman Brandon Arteaga (Lake Zurich, Ill./Lake Zurich) each earned an individual award for their performance on the mat and in the classroom.

Gerszewski capped a fantastic career with his second trip to the NCAA Division III Championship after finishing second at the Midwest Region championships. He finished the season with an overall record of 41-10. Gerszewski is a two-time WIAC Champion at 165 and boasts an overall GPA of 3.410 while majoring in Entrepreneurship.

Arteaga burst onto the scene as a freshman to claim the WIAC championship at 157, following it up with a third place finish at the Midwest Region championships. An NCAA Division III Championship qualifier, Arteaga finished the 2015-16 campaign with a 29-14 overall record. Arteaga is an Information Technology major with a 3.541 GPA.

Brodman wrapped his 2015-16 campaign with a 25-12 record and finished second at the WIAC Championships at 133. The Physical Education major carries a 3.499 GPA.
