UW-Whitewater's Amy Kahl Named WIAC Scholar-Athlete

University of Wisconsin-Whitewater senior Amy Kahl, a native of Huntley, IL, was selected as the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference's Judy Kruckman Scholar-Athlete for women's cross country.

Kahl, a graduate of Huntley High School, is majoring in physical education with a minor in adapted physical education and health and maintains a 3.64 grade point average. She has been selected to the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic Team and been a member of three UW-Whitewater squads that have received team scholastic honors from the USTFCCCA. Kahl is a three-time member of the WIAC scholastic Honor Roll and received UW-Whitewater's Student-Athlete Academic Achievement Award three times.

A team captain, Kahl finished 23rd at this year's WIAC championship. A season ago, she placed seventh at the league meet to earn All-WIAC first team recognition and secured All-Midwest Region honors by placing 27th at the regional event. Kahl was selected her team's MVP in 2014 and Top Freshman in 2012. Kahl holds the third-fastest 6K time in school history.

Kahl is a member of UW-Whitewater's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and Fellowship of Christian Athletes. She has volunteered with Whitewater's half marathon for three years, as well as with Reading with Warhawks and at St. Patrick's Santa's Workshop. Kahl has worked as a Fieldhouse Attendant and a Building Supervisor on campus at Williams Center.

The WIAC Scholar-Athlete Award is named after Judy Kruckman who served as Assistant Commissioner for the WIAC from 1996-98. Prior to this appointment, she was Commissioner of the Wisconsin Women's Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WWIAC) from October 1984 - September 1996. Kruckman was the women's athletics director at UW-Eau Claire from 1974-84, and one of the original representatives to the WWIAC when it formed in 1971.

In order to be nominated for the scholar-athlete award, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.50 grade point average. In addition, she must be in her last year of competition, or on schedule to graduate this academic year, and have competed for a minimum of two years.

Kahl will compete in the NCAA Midwest Region Championships on Saturday, Nov. 14, at Saukie Golf Course in Rock Island, Ill.
