UW-Whitewater's Aldridge Named All-Region in Baseball by D3baseball.com

2016 May 23

Cal Aldridge, a native of Crystal Lake, IL, and member of the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater baseball team, was one of three Warhawks selected to the 2016 D3baseball.com All-Midwest Region Team.

Senior pitcher Curtis Morgan (Green Lake, Wis./Green Lake), sophomore pitcher Lake Bachar (Wheaton, Ill./North) and freshman infielder Cal Aldridge (Crystal Lake, Ill./Prairie Ridge) were each tabbed second team.

All three players have helped the Warhawks reach the national championship round for the eighth time in program history and sixth time since the 2004. UW-Whitewater, making its ninth straight NCAA Tournament appearance and 20th overall, won the Central Region title over the weekend to book its trip to Appleton.

In 14 appearances this season, Morgan owns a 1.82 earned run average, good for second in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, and has a 7-2 record in 79 1/3 innings, third-most in the league. The first team All-WIAC selection leads the conference in both starts (14) and shutouts (2), and ranks fourth in strikeouts (63).

Bachar, an honorable mention all-league pick, ranks fifth in the WIAC with a 2.66 ERA and is tied for second in wins with an 8-5 record. He leads the conference with 94 strikeouts and is second in both innings pitched (84 2/3) and opponents' batting average (.225).

Both Morgan and Bachar were selected to the NCAA Regional All-Tournament Team over the weekend.

Aldridge has been one of the most consistent offensive threats for UW-Whitewater in 2016. The first team All-WIAC honoree ranks among league leaders in batting average (.402), hits (72), runs scored (38), home runs (10), runs batted in (43), total bases (114), on-base percentage (.476) and slugging percentage (.637). Aldridge was named Most Valuable Player at the NCAA Regional over the weekend.

The Warhawks begin play in the double elimination tournament at Fox Cities Stadium in Appleton Friday at 7:45 p.m. against La Roche (Pa.).

Aldridge is majoring in physical education at UW-Whitewater.
