Sussex's Koepnick Tabbed AFCA All-American for UW-Whitewater Football

Tony Koepnick, a native of Sussex, WI, and senior on the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater football team, was one of two Warhawks selected to the 2016 American Football Coaches Association Division III Coaches' All-America Team.

Brandon Tamsett (Waterford, Wis./Waterford Union), a defensive lineman, earned first team honors, while Tony Koepnick (Sussex, Wis./Hamilton), an offensive lineman, garnered second team accolades.

Both players helped the Warhawks to a 12-1 record this fall, including a 7-0 mark in Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play. UW-Whitewater claimed the program's 35th WIAC championship and reached the quarterfinal round of the NCAA Division III Playoffs for the 11th time in the last 12 years.

Tamsett was named the WIAC Defensive Player of the Year, first team All-WIAC and first team D3football.com All-West Region. He is also a nominee for the Cliff Harris Award as the nation's top defensive player from a small school (Division II, Division III, NAIA).

A three-year starter, Tamsett currently ranks second in the conference with 12.0 tackles for a loss and eighth with 5.0 sacks. He led the Warhawks' defensive line with 48 tackles and tallied one forced fumble and one recovered fumble.

Koepnick, a three-year starter, was tabbed first team All-WIAC and first team D3football.com All-West Region. He helped UW-Whitewater average 34.8 points and more than 190 rushing yards per game.

Koepnick was named a Preseason All-American by D3football.com after garnering third team D3football.com All-America, second team D3football.com All-West Region and first team all-conference accolades in 2015.
