Sussex's Gumina Tabbed Academic All-District by CoSIDA for UW-Whitewater Football

2017 Nov 17

Anton Gumina, a native of Sussex, Wis., graduate of Hamilton High School and senior on the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater football team, was selected to the NCAA Division III Academic All-District 6 first team by the College Sports Information Directors of America.

Gumina, a tight end, is one of 25 members of the first team, which includes players from NCAA Division III institutions in Michigan, Minnesota and Wisconsin.

Gumina carries a cumulative grade point average of 3.59 on a 4.0 scale. The two-year Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Scholastic Honor Roll member is majoring in biology (pre-biomedical professions) and will graduate next month.

A three-time All-WIAC honoree, including a first team pick in 2017, Gumina helped the Warhawks claim two WIAC titles and three trips to the NCAA Division III Playoffs, including a national championship in 2014. He finished the 2017 season with 23 receptions for 251 yards and three touchdowns, including one rushing, and was a key blocker in the running game.

Gumina was also active in the community during his time with the program. He made social visits to Fairhaven Senior Services with the team and was a participant in the team's annual spring food drive to benefit Whitewater Food Pantry. Gumina was also a member of the Pre-Health Associates Today on campus for four years.

In his hometown of Sussex, Wis., Gumina was a volunteer referee for Hamilton High School basketball for six years and a volunteer at the West Allis Car Show and A La Carte events for six years.

With his selection to the Academic All-District first team, Gumina is now eligible to be an Academic All-American. CoSIDA's Academic All-America teams will be announced in December.
