Selina Statz named 2013-14 UW-Whitewater Global Ambassador

2013 Nov 8

Selina Statz, a sophomore communication major from Goessweinstein, Germany, has been named a 2013-14 Global Ambassador at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater.

These ambassadors help students from 37 different countries become more comfortable with campus life.

"Global Ambassadors are more than just leaders on campus. They have a strong desire to help people," said Alicia Haley, associate outreach specialist at the Center for Global Education. "The ambassadors are constantly organizing social events and answering questions from international students, showing their interest and motivation in improving the UW-Whitewater experience for students from different parts of the world."

In order to become a global ambassador, candidates must be current students at UW-Whitewater with a minimum 2.75 GPA, must be enrolled at the university two semesters prior to applying and must possess a strong desire to assist international students with their transition to academic and co-curricular life at UW-Whitewater.

The Global Ambassadors participate in two summer training programs before starting the position. Ambassadors communicate with their specific group of international students throughout the summer in order to ensure a smooth transition when the students arrive from their home countries.
