Sarah Jolitz elected Whitewater Student Government senator

2015 Feb 19

Sarah Jolitz, a sophomore finance major from Milwaukee, Wis., has been elected as a senator with the Whitewater Student Government.

WSG is responsible for governing over 12,000 students who attend the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. WSG's role is to actively assess and serve the needs of UW-Whitewater students by providing an open forum atmosphere as well as bridging the gap between students, student leaders and campus administration.

"The Whitewater Student Government Senate has a major impact on the campus and the surrounding community," said Nathan Perry, president of WSG. "The impact on campus is evident in many ways -- campus outreach, approval of gender neutral bathrooms and advocating for students' interests at committee meetings."

WSG senators serve on university committees, hold office hours and help develop student policies, ensuring that the rights of UW-Whitewater students are protected.

The Senate serves an important role for the campus community, according to Perry.

"They are the public servants acting on behalf of the concerns and wants of the students, bringing about the changes to help better the college lifestyle," Perry said.
