Sara Borchardt recipient of UW-Whitewater 2015 Fall Graduate Research Grant

2015 Dec 4

Sara Borchardt, a graduate school psychology major from Waterford, Wis., has been awarded a 2015 Fall Graduate Research Grant.

UW-Whitewater recognizes and supports the importance of basic and applied research in the graduate experience by making small research grants available to graduate students who apply.

"What stands out about all of the funded research grants is that they propose to conduct applied research on mental health issues in regional schools that directly address the needs of Wisconsin schools and students," said Seth Meisel, interim dean of School of Graduate Studies.

Borchardt will examine the relationship between intrinsic motivation, perceived self-competence, and reading achievement in fourth grade students.

Grants up to $750 are awarded to projects that involve faculty supervision, can produce scholarly results, lead to completion of a thesis, will be presented to an audience or for publication, and coincide with students' academic and professional development.

"This is research that they will share with the host schools and present in regional and national conferences," said Meisel.
