Samantha Burkard appears in "The Furies" at UW-Whitewater

2015 Apr 29

"The Furies," the third part of a revenge play trilogy, comes to the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater in a classic production.

Samantha Burkard, a junior communications major from Hales Corners, Wis., appears as a Fury and Athena's understudy.

Written by ancient Greek tragedian Aeschylus and directed by UW-Whitewater Lecturer Angela Iannone, "The Furies" explores issues of justice and the clash of the old ways, with its demand for instant retribution, with the new, ordered system of impartial judgment.

"This production is full of passion and movement, with visually striking effects and music underscoring the action," said Marshall Anderson, chairperson of the theatre and dance department. "I think that audiences will be excited by the use of language, music, dance and all of the visuals as they work together to tell a passionate story - one that is really quite contemporary."

The production opened Tuesday, April 28, at 7:30 p.m. at Barnett Theatre in the Greenhill Center of the Arts and runs until Saturday, May 2.
