Rockford's Campbell Earns All-WIAC Honors for UW-Whitewater Football

Brent Campbell, a native of Rockford, Ill., and member of the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater football team, was one of 17 members of the program to be recognized by the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference for his performance during the 2016 season.

Senior defensive lineman Brandon Tamsett (Waterford/Waterford-Union) was selected WIAC Defensive Player of the Year. He is the first UW-Whitewater defensive player to earn the honor since 2013, when linebacker Cole Klotz was named the league's Player of the Year.

Head coach Kevin Bullis was tabbed George Chryst Coach of the Year for the first time in his career.

Tamsett is joined on the All-WIAC first team by senior tight end Brent Campbell (Rockford, IL/Winnebago), senior defensive lineman John Flood (Spring Grove, IL/Richmond-Burton Community), senior offensive lineman Tony Koepnick (Sussex/Hamilton), senior defensive back Vince Mason (Green Bay, Wis./Green Bay Southwest), junior wide receiver Marcus Hudson (Delavan, Wis./Delavan-Darien), junior linebacker Matt Seitz (Hartland, Wis./Arrowhead), sophomore running back Drew Patterson (Sussex, Wis./Hamilton)and sophomore offensive lineman Nate Trewyn (Janesville, Wis./Milton).

Senior linebacker Paul Foster (Janesville/Craig) and senior offensive lineman Austin Jones (Madison, Wis./Memorial) earned second team honors. Senior defensive back Colin Buck (Greendale, Wis./Franklin), senior defensive lineman Tim Regan (Algonquin, IL/HD Jacobs), junior tight end Tony Gumina (Sussex, Wis./Hamilton) and sophomore quarterback Cole Wilber (Dana Point, Calif./Dana Hills) garnered honorable mention accolades.

The Warhawks claimed their 35th conference championship and 10th in the last 12 years with a perfect 7-0 WIAC record. UW-Whitewater enters the NCAA Division III Playoffs with a 10-0 mark, a No. 1 national ranking by the American Football Coaches Association and the No. 2 ranking from D3football.com.

Tamsett currently ranks fourth in the WIAC with 10.5 tackles for a loss, including 4.5 sacks, which is tied for eighth in the league. Now a two-time first team all-conference honoree, Tamsett leads the Warhawks' defensive line with 36 tackles and has forced one fumble and recovered another.

Campbell, Koepnick and Trewyn help block for UW-Whitewater's offense, which is averaging 414.3 yards and 35.7 points per contest. Koepnick, a 2015 All-American, is now a three-time All-WIAC selection, including twice to the first team. Campbell enters the postseason with 11 receptions for 129 yards and one touchdown. Trewyn is in his first season with the team after transferring from Minnesota State Mankato.

Patterson is the league's No. 1 rusher with 168 carries for 974 yards (5.8 yards per carry) and 13 touchdowns. He also leads the league in scoring (102 points) and total touchdowns (17).

Hudson leads the Warhawks' receiving corps with 38 receptions for 611 yards (16.1 ypr) and three touchdowns. He was also named first team All-WIAC last season.

Flood pairs with Tamsett up front to lead a stout UW-Whitewater rushing defense, which allows a league-best 83.8 yards rushing per game. He enters the weekend with 19 tackles, including 3.0 for a loss.

Seitz leads the team and ranks 17th in the conference with 54 tackles, including 35 solo stops and 5.0 tackles for a loss, and is tied atop the league with three fumble recoveries. He was tabbed second team All-WIAC last season.

Mason leads the defensive backfield with 45 tackles, including a team-best 39 solo stops, and is tied for second in the WIAC with five interceptions. He is third in the league with 10 passes defended.

Foster ranks second on the team with 51 tackles, including 8.0 for a loss, and has one interception and a forced fumble. Jones garnered second team All-WIAC and first team all-region accolades last season and helps anchor the offensive line. Foster and Jones join Flood as the team's three captains.

Wilber enters Saturday having completed 109-of-201 passes for 1,515 yards and 10 touchdowns. Gumina ranks second on the team with 28 receptions for 302 yards and three touchdowns.

Buck leads the conference with seven interceptions and has two forced fumbles to go along with 34 tackles. Regan has appeared in nine games and has nine tackles on the interior of the defensive line.

Senior quarterback Chris Nelson (Twin Lakes/Wilmot Union) was the team's representative on the WIAC All-Sportsmanship Team.

Campbell is majoring in Occupational Safety at UW-Whitewater.
