Robert Emmett appointed a City of Whitewater Special Registration Deputy

2015 Feb 9

Robert Emmett, a senior entrepreneurship major from Hales Corners, Wis. was appointed as a Special Registration Deputy by the City of Whitewater.

Deputies are appointed by the Whitewater City Clerk to register residents to vote and provide information about the current election. Individuals serve in this position for an entire calendar year.

"Civic engagement has always been important, even more so for those who are just beginning their voting habits," said Jan Bilgen, associate director for Career and Leadership Development. "Without those people who staff our polls or register our voters, the democratic process could not exist. I am grateful for those UW-Whitewater students who have stepped up, regardless of political and ideological beliefs, and made voting accessible for so many."

Deputies registered more than 1,800 people on Election Day on Tuesday, Nov. 4, in the James R. Connor University Center and the Downtown Whitewater Armory.
