Richland Center's Magee Named All-Academic for UW-Whitewater Track and Field

Cameron Magee, a native of Richland Center, Wis., graduate of Ithaca School and member of the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater track and field program, was one of 15 Warhawks who were acknowledged by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association in the organization's 2017 NCAA Division III All-Academic Honors.

In addition, junior thrower Theron Baumann (Monona Grove, Wis.) of the men's team was named Division III Men's Outdoor Field Scholar Athlete of the Year after finishing the year with a 3.36 GPA, winning the shot put national championship and placing third in the discus throw at the NCAA Outdoor Championships. He earned USTFCCCA Division III Men's Outdoor Outstanding Field Performer of the Meet distinction after accounting for 16 points at the meet.

Seniors Meredith Porter (Hales Corners, Wis./Whitnall), Leah Richter (Fond du Lac, Wis./Fond du Lac), Amanda Strupp (Slinger, Wis./Slinger), juniors Chelsie Bence (Oconomowoc, Wis./Oconomowoc), Courtney Pohlman (Janesville, Wis./Craig), Erika Sternard (Cary, Ill./Cary-Grove) and sophomore Celeste Madda (Crystal Lake, Ill./Central) were each selected as All-Academic individuals on the women's side. Richter concludes her career as a three-time honoree, and Porter, Strupp, Sternard and Madda all garnered their second straight All-Academic accolade.

Baumann, seniors Jack Bullis (Whitewater, Wis./Whitewater), Kyle McNeil (Geneva, Ill./Geneva Community), juniors Cameron Magee (Richland Center, Wis./Ithaca), Parker Witt (Appleton, Wis./North), sophomore Matt Green (Mukwonago, Wis./Mukwonago), freshmen Julio Perez (Watertown, Wis./Kettle Moraine) and Jake Schneider (Plymouth, Wis./Plymouth) represented the men as All-Academic individuals. Magee is a three-time selection, and McNeil is a two-time honoree.

Magee is majoring in Secondary Mathematics Education at UW-Whitewater.

To qualify for All-Academic accolades, student-athletes must have maintained a cumulative GPA of 3.30 or higher and must have either competed in an NCAA Indoor or Outdoor Championship or finished the regular season ranked in the national top 50 in an individual event or ranked in the national top 35 (collective listing) in a relay event on the official NCAA POP list provided by TFRRS.org.

Porter qualified for All-Academic standing in seven different events, including two relays. She finished the regular season second in the indoor 4x400-meter relay, sixth in the indoor 400-meter dash, 28th in the indoor 200-meter dash, second in the 400-meter hurdles, 11th in the outdoor 4x400-meter relay, 19th in the 4x100-meter relay and 30th in the outdoor 400-meter dash.

Richter and Madda finished among the top 50 in five events each. Richter was second in the indoor 4x400-meter relay, seventh in the indoor pole vault, 26th in the indoor 400-meter dash, 11th in the outdoor 4x400-meter relay and 35th in the outdoor pole vault. Madda finished the regular season sixth in the indoor 200-meter dash, 16th in the 60-meter dash, 17th in both the 100- and 200-meter dash events and 19th in the 4x100-meter relay.

Strupp finished eighth in the weight throw, 22nd in the discus throw and 30th in the hammer throw. Pohlman tallied the No. 41 mark in the outdoor pole vault and the No. 45 in the indoor pole vault.

Sternard finished 26th in the indoor high jump and Bence was part of the No. 19 4x100-meter relay during the outdoor season.

On the men's side, Witt finished among the top 20 in five different events, including the 60-meter dash (2nd), 100-meter dash (1st), indoor 200-meter dash (1st), outdoor 200-meter dash (1st) and 4x100-meter relay (18th).

Baumann ranked among the top 10 in three events, including the indoor shot put (2nd), outdoor shot put (1st) and discus throw (7th). Magee tied for eighth in the indoor high jump and ranked 12th in the outdoor high jump, Schneider finished 15th in the 200-meter dash and 29th in the 4x100-meter relay and Perez held the No. 20 mark in the outdoor shot put and the No. 15 toss in the discus throw.

Green finished 29th in the indoor triple jump, Bullis placed 44th in the javelin throw and McNeil recorded the No. 45 result in the weight throw.

A total of 608 women were selected All-Academic. On the men's side, 402 student-athletes made the list.
