Racine's Navratil Named Academic All-District for UW-Whitewater Men's Tennis

2018 May 18

Zane Navratil, a native of Racine, WI, graduate of The Prairie School and senior on the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's tennis team, has been selected to the 2017-18 Google Cloud Academic All-District 6 Men's NCAA Division III At-Large First Team as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America.

Navratil carried a 4.0 grade point average on a 4.0 scale as an undergrad and is finishing up his first semester in the Master of Professional Accountancy program. He graduated suma cum lauda (highest academic honors) last December with a bachelor's in accounting.

District 6 includes institutions in Michigan, Minnesota and Wisconsin. Navratil is one of five student-athletes from Wisconsin schools and the lone tennis player among the group of 10.

Navratil finished the 2017-18 season with 13 singles victories and a 15-13 record in doubles, competing primarily at the No. 1 position in both. He helped lead the Warhawks to a 16-9 dual record during the season.

Navratil is currently ranked No. 13 in doubles in the Central Region by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association with playing partner Jimmy Engelhart. He was recently honored as a 2017-18 UW-Whitewater Chancellor's Scholar-Athlete.

For his career, Navratil is a three-year member of the Wisocnsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Scholastic Honor Roll and a three-time ITA Scholar-Athlete. He helped lead the Warhawks to three straight NCAA Tournament appearances (2015, 2016, 2017).

Navratil earned the Public Company Accounting Overnight Board Scholarship as UW-Whitewater's top accounting student in 2017. He was also a member of Beta Alpha Psi and the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, and was a volunteer coach and Fairhaven Senior Services visitor.

By virtue of his first team all-district recognition, Navratil is eligible for Academic All-America honors, which will be announced in mid-June. The at-large category includes the following men's sports: fencing, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, swimming and diving, tennis, volleyball, water polo and wrestling.
