Pleasant Prairie's Humphreys Named WIAC Women's Tennis Scholar-Athlete of the Year

Megan Humphreys, a native of Pleasant Prairie and member of the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's tennis team, has been selected the recipient of the 2016 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Judy Kruckman Women's Tennis Scholar-Athlete Award. The award is sponsored by Badgerland Financial.

A senior from Kenosha, Wis. (Tremper), Humphreys owns a 3.58 grade point average and is majoring in elementary education with a minor in biology. She is a two-time Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) NCAA Division III Scholar-Athlete and a three-time member of the WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll. Humphreys has been recognized on UW-Whitewater's Dean's List and Honor Roll.

A two-time WIAC Player of the Year selection, she helped UW-Whitewater to its 10th straight WIAC championship this year by winning the No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles titles. Humphreys claimed both titles for the second straight season. She added a first-place finish at No. 3 singles in 2013. In 2014, she received the James O'Hara Sargent Sportsmanship Award presented by Rolex Watch, USA. A four-time ITA singles All-American and two-time ITA doubles All-American, Humphreys is a two-year team captain and holds several program season and career records.

She is a member of UW-Whitewater's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and Pre-Health Associates of Today. Humphreys has volunteered with Reading With The Warhawks, Polar Plunge for Special Olympics and youth tennis days.

Also nominated for this year's scholar-athlete award were: UW-Eau Claire's Brooke Volpone (Sr., Monticello, Minn.); UW-La Crosse's Samantha Fleming (Sr., Kingsford, Mich.); UW-River Falls' Anna Fesenmaier (Sr., Balsam Lake, Wis./Unity); UW-Stevens Point's Frances Weiss (Sr., Sussex, Wis./Sussex-Hamilton); and UW-Stout's Anna Lano (Sr., Chaska, Minn./Chanhassen).

The WIAC Scholar-Athlete Award is named after Judy Kruckman who served as Assistant Commissioner for the WIAC from 1996-98. Prior to this appointment, she was Commissioner of the Wisconsin Women's Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WWIAC) from October, 1984 - September, 1996. Kruckman was the women's athletics director at UW-Eau Claire from 1974-84, and one of the original representatives to the WWIAC when it formed in 1971.

In order to be nominated for the scholar-athlete award, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.50 grade point average. In addition, she must be in her last year of competition, or on schedule to graduate this academic year, and have competed for a minimum of two years.
