Pleasant Prairie's Humphreys Named WIAC Women's Tennis Player of the Year at UW-Whitewater

2016 Oct 28

Megan Humphreys, a native of Pleasant Prairie, Wis., and senior on the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's tennis team, has been named 2016 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Year for the third consecutive season.

Humphreys, a graduate of Kenosha Tremper High School, helped the Warhawks clinch their 10th consecutive WIAC championship by winning the No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles titles. She finishes her conference championship career with three singles championships, including two in the No. 1 draw, and two doubles titles, both in the No. 1 flight.

Earlier this fall, Humphreys claimed her fourth All-America honor in singles and her second All-America accolade in doubles. She finished second in the Division III singles draw at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Oracle Cup, her second runner-up finish at the small college national tournament. Humphreys also paired with sophomore Gabi Kitchell to place fourth in the Division III doubles flight in the same tournament.

Humphreys sealed her All-America status by winning both the singles and doubles draws at the ITA Midwest Regional Championships.

Humphreys currently owns a record of 16-4 in singles play and a 20-2 mark in doubles, including a 14-2 record playing with Kitchell.

Humphreys is majoring in elementary education at UW-Whitewater.

Humphreys and the Warhawks look to punch their ticket to the program's 10th straight NCAA Division III Tournament at the WIAC Final Four AQ Tournament on April 29.

The spring season commences on March 12 in Janesville with a dual match against Augustana (Ill.).
