2016 Oct 17

Megan Humphreys, a native of Pleasant Prairie, Wis., and member of the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's tennis team, garnered All-America accolades by virtue of her play over the last month.

On Sept. 25, senior Megan Humphreys (Kenosha, Wis./Tremper) and sophomore Gabi Kitchell (Wausau, Wis./D.C. Everest) clinched All-America status by winning the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Midwest Regional doubles championship.

Humphreys also earned All-America honors in singles by claiming her fourth consecutive regional title.

Humphreys competed in singles and teamed with Kitchell over the weekend at the ITA Oracle Cup in Surprise, Ariz.

Humphreys finished as national runner-up in Division III singles. The second-place finish was the second of her career at the national tournament and fourth top-five placement overall. On her way to the draw's championship match, Humphreys knocked off No. 4 seed Brooke Donnelly of Washington & Lee (Va.) and top-seeded Caroline Casper of Pomona Pitzer (Calif.). The four-year singles All-American is now 14-4 for the season heading into this weekend's WIAC Championship.

Humphreys and Kitchell teamed up to finish fourth. The duo knocked off fourth-seeded Kathy Joseph and Melanie Marlin of Texas-Dallas 6-4, 6-4 in the quarterfinals before being bested by top-seeded Bridget Harding and Katarina Su of Emory (Ga.) in straight sets. In the third-place match, Humphreys and Kitchell won the second set, but were outlasted 7-5, 6-7, 1-0 (10-8) by No. 3 Kaylan Griffith and Rebecca Ho of Washington-St. Louis. The pair garnered All-America accolades by winning the ITA Midwest Regional doubles title to qualify for the ITA Oracle Cup.

Humphreys is majoring in elementary education at UW-Whitewater.
