Pleasant Prairie Native Humphreys Earns All-America Honors at UW-Whitewater

Megan Humphreys, a native of Pleasant Prairie, WI, and member of the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's tennis team, claimed a championship at the United States Tennis Association/Intercollegiate Tennis Association Midwest Region Championships at Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, Minn.

Junior Megan Humphreys (Kenosha, Wis./Tremper) punched her third consecutive ticket to the USTA/ITA Small College National Championships in singles with a three-set victory in the semifinals over Michaela Schulz of Gustavus and a win in straight sets against freshman teammate Gabi Kitchell (Wausau, Wis./D.C. Everest).

Sophomores Alicia Beck (Bismarck, N.D./St. Mary's Central) and Jillian Wallace (Crystal Lake, Ill./Central) downed Humphreys and sophomore Bridgid McGuire (Slinger, Wis./Slinger) in an all-Warhawk doubles final, claiming the third and deciding set in a super tiebreaker. Beck will make her second straight trip to the national championships after qualifying with McGuire in 2014.

With their regional titles, Humphreys, Beck and Wallace clinch All-America status.

The Small College National Championships take place Oct. 15-17 in Sumter, S.C.

Humphreys and McGuire defeated Carthage 8-1 in the semifinals. Beck and Wallace claimed a spot in the final with a victory by tiebreak against UW-La Crosse.
