Pleasant Prairie Native Humphreys Earns All-America Honors at UW-Whitewater

2015 May 26

Megan Humphreys, a general business major and member of the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater tennis program, is an All-American based on accomplishments during the 2014-15 season.

Junior Jake Humphreys, a Kenosha Tremper High School graduate, saw his record-setting season come to an end Friday, falling 7-5, 6-3 in a national quarterfinal match against Michael Buxbaum of Johns Hopkins at the NCAA Division III Tennis Championships at Lindner Family Tennis Center in Mason, Ohio.

Humphreys, who Thursday became the first player in program history to reach the quarterfinals in singles play, finishes his All-America season with an 18-9 record.

Humphreys reached the quarterfinals thanks to a pair of victories Thursday. He clinched NCAA All-America accolades with a 7-6 (4), 6-4 triumph over No. 6 seed Adam Krull of Trinity (Texas) in the first round, then downed Skidmore's Kai Yuen Leung in the Round of 16 by a 6-3, 6-3 tally.

Now a two-time NCAA singles All-American, Humphreys helped lead the Warhawks to their ninth consecutive NCAA Team Tournament appearance in 2015. His 29 career wins at No. 1 singles in dual matches are seventh in program history. Humphreys is 66-23 (.742 winning percentage) in all singles matches for his career.

Sophomore Megan Humphreys, also a Tremper graduate and the younger sister of Jake Humphreys, suffered a 6-2, 6-1 setback against Joulia Likhanskaia of Bowdoin (Maine) in the first round of the NCAA women's singles draw to finish her season with a 28-9 overall record. Humphreys achieved Intercollegiate Tennis Association All-America accolades in singles in the fall by winning the United States Tennis Association/ITA Midwest Regional championship. She went on to finish as runner-up in the Division III singles draw at the USTA/ITA National Small College Championships.

Humphreys is 61-14 (.813 winning percentage) for her career in singles play.
