New Berlin's Klotz Named National Softball Player of the Week at UW-Whitewater

2017 Mar 29

Mallory Klotz, a native of New Berlin, WI, and graduate of New Berlin West Junior Senior High, has been selected Louisville Slugger/National Fastpitch Coaches Association Division III National Player of the Week.

Klotz, a junior outfielder, is the program's first national honoree since Jo Jablonski earned the honor in April 2014. She was also named the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference's Position Player of the Week earlier this week.

Klotz finished 12-of-16 at the plate in five games last week, tallying four multi-hit games during the stretch to help the Warhawks to a 5-1 record at the National Training Complex Spring Games in Clermont, Fla. She totaled four hits, including three doubles, scored three runs and knocked in one run during UW-Whitewater's spring break finale, an 8-1 triumph over Hendrix (Ark.) on March 23.

Klotz also hit two home runs during the week, including a two-run blast during the third inning of the team's 8-2 victory over Buffalo State (N.Y.) on March 21.

Klotz and the Warhawks open their home and WIAC schedules this Saturday with a doubleheader against UW-La Crosse. First pitch is slated for 2 p.m. at van Steenderen Softball Complex.

Klotz is majoring in general business at UW-Whitewater.
