Naperville's Prestifilippo Earn All-Academic Standing for UW-Whitewater Cross Country

Sydney Prestifilippo, a native of Naperville, IL, and graduate of Naperville North High School, was one of two members of the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater cross country program to earn All-Academic distinction from the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association for the 2017 season.

Freshman David Fassbender (Slinger, Wis./Slinger) of the men's team and sophomore Sydney Prestifilippo (Naperville, Ill./North) of the women's team were named All-Academic individuals.

A physical education major, Fassbender finished second on the team and 27th overall at the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships to help the team finish fifth at the meet. He finished among the top 20 percent at the NCAA Midwest Regional Championships, placing third on the team and 48th overall to help the Warhawks to ninth place overall.

Prestifilippo placed third on the team and 43rd overall at the WIAC Championships and led the team with a 65th-place finish, good for the top quarter of the field, at the NCAA Midwest Regional Championships. She is majoring in journalism.

To be recognized as an individual, student-athletes must have a 3.30 cumulative GPA and finish in the top 25 percent of their respective regional championship meet.
