Mundelein's Langlie Named WIAC Baseball Scholar-Athlete

Matt Langlie, a native of Mundelein, IL, and graduate of Mundelein High School, selected the recipient of the 2017 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Max Sparger Baseball Scholar-Athlete Award. The award is sponsored by Badgerland Financial.

Langlie, a senior from Mundelein, Ill., is majoring in special education and owns a 3.57 grade point average. He is a three-time member of the WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll and been recognized on UW-Whitewater's Dean's List numerous semesters.

He has helped UW-Whitewater secure three conference regular-season championships and a pair of tournament titles. Langlie was also a member of UW-Whitewater's national championship team in 2014. In 2017, he was a nominee for Mr. Warhawk - an award that exemplifies what it means to be a UW-Whitewater student-athlete and displays excellence in the classroom, on the playing surface and within the campus community.

Langlie is an officer candidate for U.S. Marine Corps and will be commissioned as a second lieutenant in August. He is a member of the Warhawk Leadership Academy and volunteered for a literacy program and worked as a youth baseball coach.


Also nominated for this year's scholar-athlete award were: UW-La Crosse's Jameson Lavery (Sr., Footville, Wis./Parkview); UW-Oshkosh's Neal Ori (Sr., Palatine, Ill.); and UW-Stout's Derek Graves (Sr., Mora, Minn.).



In order to be nominated for the scholar-athlete award, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.50 grade point average. In addition, he must be in his last year of competition, or on schedule to graduate this academic year, and have competed for a minimum of two years.
