Mundelein Native Morelli Named NFCA Scholar-Athlete at UW-Whitewater

Haley Morelli, a native of Mundelein, Ill., and member of the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater softball team, was recognized by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association as a 2015-16 Easton/NFCA Division III Scholar-Athlete.

The Warhawks were also tabbed an All-Academic Team by the NFCA after posting a 3.402 grade point average on a 4.0 scale during the 2015-16 academic year, good for 41st among the 92 Division III institutions recognized.

Thirteen UW-Whitewater players were among the 1,124 in Division III to earn a 3.5 GPA or higher in 2015-16. A total of 5,152 student-athletes earned Easton/NFCA Scholar-Athlete honors across the NFCA's seven membership divisions.

Senior Maggie Hansen (Algonquin, Ill./Jacobs), juniors Jessica Kaemerer (New Lenox, Ill./Lincoln Way West), Haley Morelli (Mundelein, Ill./Mundelein), Cara Smoczynski (Aurora, Ill./Rosary), sophomores Maddie Drain (Crystal Lake, Ill./Prairie Ridge), Mallory Klotz (New Berlin, Wis./West), freshmen Kelly Berglund (Menomonee Falls, Wis./Menomonee Falls), Julia Camardo (Arlington Heights, Ill./Buffalo Grove), Caitlin Catino (Arlington Heights, Ill./Buffalo Grove), Lauren Janczak (Carol Stream, Ill./Bartlett), Nikki Mikosz (Wheeling, Ill./Wheeling), Emily Rux (Chicago, Ill./Mother McAuley) and Kayla Seymour (New Lenox, Ill./Lincoln-Way West).

All 13 players helped the Warhawks win the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Tournament championship and reach the NCAA Division III Tournament for the fourth straight season. UW-Whitewater finished with a 29-14 record.

Morelli is majoring in social work at UW-Whitewater.
