Morgan Hakenson part of award-winning DECA team at UW-Whitewater

Morgan Hakenson from Milwaukee, Wis., contributed to an outstanding performance by the UW-Whitewater Collegiate DECA chapter at the Wisconsin Collegiate DECA State Conference, and will advance to compete at the International Career Development Conference in Washington, D.C. in April.

Thirty-eight Warhawks traveled to the state conference in Delavan, Wisconsin, on Feb. 22-24, where they earned a program-record 91 awards in a variety of individual and team events.

Hakenson and her teammate won third place in the Business Ethics category.

In addition to individual and team awards, UW-Whitewater Collegiate DECA earned two chapter awards: first-place for the DECA Diamond award and third-place for Civic Consciousness. This outstanding student chapter, which was formed just nine years ago, has earned three DECA Diamond awards and five Chapter of the Year awards.

Collegiate DECA is an international association that helps prepare emerging leaders and entrepreneurs for careers in marketing, finance, hospitality and management. Students put their experience, skills and knowledge to the test at competitive events judged by business and industry professionals.
