Milwaukee's Jones Tabbed All-WIAC for UW-Whitewater Men's Basketball

Chris Jones, a native of Milwaukee, WI, and graduate of Bradley Technology and Trade School, was one of four members of the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's basketball team to be selected All-Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference based on their performances during the 2016-17 season.

Junior guard Chris Jones (Milwaukee, Wis./Bradley Tech) garnered first team accolades, while junior forwards Scotty Tyler (Grafton, Wis./Grafton), Demetrius Woodley (Milwaukee, Wis./Vincent) and sophomore guard/forward Derek Rongstad (Middleton, Wis./Middleton) earned honorable mention. Rongstad was also named to the WIAC All-Defensive Team.

All four players helped the Warhawks reach the WIAC Championship semifinals and earn an at-large bid to the NCAA Division III Championship and hosting privileges for the first two rounds of the tournament. UW-Whitewater enters NCAA play with a 21-6 overall record after tying for second in the conference's regular season standings with a 9-5 mark.

Jones currently leads the conference in scoring at 17.8 points per contest and ranks second in 3-point field goal percentage (47.8) and fourth in assists (75). He was a three-time WIAC Player of the Week during the season.

Tyler ranks eighth in the WIAC with 14.4 points per game and is sixth in rebounding at 6.0 per affair. He also leads the league with 30 blocks (1.25 per game) and is seventh in the conference with a team-best 28 steals (1.17 per game).

Woodley enters play this week averaging 8.6 points and 4.3 rebounds per contest. He ranks fourth in the conference in both field goal percentage (53.9) and offensive rebounds (44 / 1.69 per game).

Since joining the program in late December, Rongstad is averaging 10.3 points and 5.8 rebounds per game while shooting 45.5 percent from the floor and 79.6 percent from the free-throw line. In WIAC games only, he leads the league in steals (26) and ranks fourth in rebounding (6.5 per game).

Senior guard Drew Bryson (Elkhorn, Wis./Elkhorn) represented the Warhawks on the conference's All-Sportsmanship Team.

UW-Whitewater will host Northwestern (Minn.) in a first round contest Friday at 7:30 p.m. at Kachel Gymnasium. The winner of Friday's game will advance to Saturday's second round to take on the winner of the Augustana (Ill.)/St. Thomas (Minn.) game at 7 p.m. in Whitewater.
