Milton's Stair Tabbed All-American Scholar for UW-Whitewater Golf

Stephanie Stair, a native of Milton, Wis., graduate of Milton High School and member of the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater golf team, was one of five Warhawks selected as a 2016-17 All-American Scholar by the Women's Golf Coaches Association.

Senior Stephanie Stair (Milton, Wis./Milton), junior Hayley Jefferson (Carol Stream, Ill./Glenbard North), junior Maddie McCue (Milton, Wis./Milton), sophomore Kaitlin Bowe (Franklin, Wis./Franklin) and freshman Ashley Hofmeister (New Berlin, Wis./Eisenhower) garnered All-American Scholar accolades. Stair finishes her career as a three-time honoree, while Bowe is now a two-time honoree.

A total of 952 student-athletes from NCAA and NAIA institutions around the nation were named to the team. Players must have maintained a minimum 3.5 grade point average on a 4.0 scale to be an All-American Scholar.

With the help of all five players, the Warhawks finished the season with two tournament championships and a third-place finish at the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championship.

Stair majored in social work with a minor in special education. She was selected WIAC Judy Kruckman Women's Golf Co-Scholar Athlete of the Year, is a three-time WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll member and was named a 2016-17 UW-Whitewater Chancellor's Scholar-Athlete. Stair ranked second on the team in scoring average (84.9) in 2016-17 and was a second team All-WIAC selection in 2015-16.

Jefferson competed in 15 varsity rounds during the season, posting an 18-hole average of 91.2. A three-time WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll member, Jefferson is majoring in early childhood and special education. She is a member of the Future Teachers Student Organization, Kappa Delta Pi, Best Buddies and National Society of Leadership and Success.

McCue is majoring in finance with a minor in Spanish. A transfer from Division I North Dakota, McCue averaged an 87.3 in 16 rounds during the season. She finished 15th at the WIAC Championship last fall.

Bowe ranked among the top five on the team in scoring average with an 87.2 in 17 rounds and tallied a pair of top 10 finishes during the season. She is majoring in accounting and is a two-time WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll member. Bowe is a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, is a Veteran Warhawk in the Warhawk Leadership Academy and is a Student-Athlete Advisory Committee representative.

Hofmeister became UW-Whitewater's first individual conference champion since 1999 and was tabbed first team All-WIAC following a standout rookie campaign. She led the team in scoring average with an 82.4 and registered five top 10 finishes in the fall, including medalist honors at the Carthage Shootout on the Border on Sept. 2-3 and at the WIAC Championship. Hofmeister is majoring in general business with a minor in actuarial science.
