Mike Judd, aChicago native, has been named WIAC Athlete of the Week

Five University of Wisconsin-Whitewater student-athletes, including Mike Judd from Chicago, were named Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Athletes of the Week for the week of January 12-18.

Men's Basketball - Quardell Young - Senior - Guard Young helped the second-ranked Warhawks post back-to-back road wins last week and extend the team's winning streak to eight games. On Wednesday (Jan. 14) at UW-Eau Claire, he tallied nine of his team-high 15 points in the final 3:01 of regulation, putting UW-Whitewater ahead for good with 1.5 seconds on the clock on a lay-up after picking up the ball near half court. Three days later, Young shot a perfect 12-for-12 en route to a career-high 28 points to guide the Warhawks to a 71-64 triumph at UW-La Crosse. His perfect shooting performance was the fifth in program history (minimum 10 attempts) and the second such game of his career. (Young was 10-for-10 for 25 points in a win over UW-Eau Claire on Jan. 11, 2014)

Gymnastics - Courtney Pickett - Sophomore - All-Around Pickett's first place finish on the floor exercise and second place in the all-around led UW-Whitewater to a third place finish at the Ozone Invitational over the weekend (Jan. 17). Her performance on the floor scored 9.75 to top 18 Division I athletes and win the event. Her score helped the Warhawks to a team total of 48.350 in the event, the highest team score in the invite. She added a 9.525 to tie for 10th on the balance beam, a 9.55 on the uneven bars for 12th and a 9.4 on the vault to tie for 18th. Pickett's total in the all-around, 38.225, bested six Division I athletes and led the Warhawks to a team total of 189.975 to defeat Division I Alaska.

Men's Track and Field - Mike Judd - Senior - 60-meter Hurdles Judd won the 60-meter hurdles Saturday (Jan. 17) at UW-Whitewater's season-opening Karl Schlender Invitational with a time of 8.25. His mark currently ranked No. 1 in the WIAC and is currently the fifth-fastest time in NCAA Division III this season. Judd was also park of the Warhawks' 4x400-meter relay, which placed fourth of nine teams. His performance helped UW-Whitewater place first at the six-team meet.

Men's Track and Field - Robert Starnes - Freshman - Jumps Starnes won two events in the first collegiate meet of his career Saturday (Jan. 17) at UW-Whitewater's Karl Schlender Invitational. His mark of 23-06.25 won the long jump and is currently the largest jump in the WIAC and currently ranked No. 1 in NCAA Division III this season. Starnes also won the high jump with a jump of 6-07.50, which ranks first in the WIAC and ninth in the nation. His performance helped the Warhawks win the six-team meet.

Women's Track and Field - Lexie Sondgeroth - Senior - Sprints Sondgeroth won the 200-meter dash Saturday (Jan. 17) at UW-Whitewater's Karl Schlender Invitational with a time of 25.56. Her mark currently ranks first in both the WIAC and NCAA Division III. Sondgeroth also won the long jump with a leap of 18-03.25 to help the Warhawks win the five-team, season-opening invitational.
