Michael Kaip wins national championship

2014 Mar 20

Michael Kaip and his University of Wisconsin-Whitewater teammates are at the top of the collegiate wheelchair basketball world.

Kaip, a freshman secondary history education major from Mandan, N.D., helped the Warhawks bring home the title after defeating the University of Texas-Arlington 55-54 on March 8 at the National Wheelchair Basketball Tournament in Arlington.

This title marks the Warhawks' 11th national championship in the program's history.

"It was an incredible season that ended with us playing our best game of the season," said Jeremy Lade, head coach. "I was so proud of our team for winning on our opponent's home court."

For Lade, this is the fourth national championship during his six years coaching the Warhawks.
