Mendota Heights Native McKay Part of UW-Whitewater's Run to NCAA Tournament

Kate McKay, a native of Mendota Heights, MN, and graduate of Henry Sibley High School, is a part of the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's basketball team, which will compete Friday at 5:30 p.m. in the first round of the NCAA Division III Tournament against Bluffton (Ohio) at Washington University in St. Louis, Mo.

McKay, a sophomore for the Warhawks, is majoring in biology.

The Warhawks (19-7 overall) earned an at-large, or Pool C, bid to the national tournament, while the Beavers (25-2) claimed the automatic bid by winning the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament championship. UW-Whitewater is making its 15th NCAA appearance, including its eighth in the last nine years, while Bluffton is appearing in its first-ever national tournament.

The winner of Friday's contest advances to Saturday's second round against the winner of Friday's other first round game featuring Greenville (Ill.) and host Washington-St. Louis. Tipoff of Saturday's affair is scheduled for 7 p.m.
