Melanie Sorman to present at Spring Undergraduate Research Day at UW-Whitewater

2016 Mar 14

Melanie Sorman, a senior geography major from Hoffman Estates, Ill., will present at Spring Undergraduate Research Day at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater.

The event, open to the public, is noon- 3 p.m. Wednesday, March 16, in the James R. Connor University Center Hamilton Room and second floor.

Sorman's project is titled "Fossil Diversity of Cretaceous Paleocommunities Using Oxygen Level and Sea Depth Trends."

"It's a celebration -- a chance for student researchers to share their work with the campus and community at large," said Catherine Chan, director of the Undergraduate Research Program.

UW-Whitewater is nationally known for its emphasis on undergraduate research. This event is a prelude for students who are preparing for off-campus presentations later this spring.

Chan will be taking about 40 students to the National Conference on Undergraduate Research April 7-9 at the University of North Carolina Asheville. Six UW-Whitewater students will present their research at the UW System's Posters in the Rotunda event, where they will meet with state legislators and the staff.
