2013 Oct 17

Megan Lynch, a senior biology major from Jefferson, Wis., has been named to the 2013 Homecoming Steering Committee at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater.

"Students on this committee serve as leaders," said Kim Clarksen, leadership adviser. "With a strong support group that is diverse and motivates them to succeed, any student will gain skills throughout this process that they will carry with them after graduation."

This year's theme is "Warhawks Unite," and events - from spirit competitions to the parade - will focus on everyday heroes and superheroes, exemplifying real and fictional accounts of heroism.

"Members of the Homecoming Steering Committee plan more than 10 events for undergraduate students at UW-Whitewater," said Clarksen. "This eight-month commitment includes everything from selecting the events to planning them to running them safely."

Along with "Warhawks Unite," the philanthropy recipient is the Whitewater K-9 Unit, One of the events is a puppy photo contest fundraiser that also benefits the Rock County Humane Society.

The homecoming parade will begin on Main Street at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 2. Later that day, Warhawk football players will take on UW-Platteville at 1 p.m. at Perkins Stadium.
