Makenzie Smith appears in "I Hate Hamlet" at UW-Whitewater

2015 Oct 7

"I Hate Hamlet" brings an actor's big Hollywood dreams with a dash of Shakespeare to the stage of the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater.

Makenzie Smith, a senior theatre major from Orangeville, Ill., serves as the understudy for Lillian Troy.

The play follows Andrew Rally, a television actor with Hollywood dreams. Rally is given the opportunity to perform every actor's dream role, Hamlet. But there is a catch - Rally hates Hamlet. As if situations weren't already complicated enough, Rally is visited by the ghost of actor John Barrymore, who famously played Hamlet and takes it upon himself to coach Rally about acting, love and life. With Rally caught between his love for the stage and following his Hollywood dreams, he must decide which to pursue.

The production opened Tuesday, Oct. 6, at 7:30 p.m. at Barnett Theatre in the Greenhill Center of the Arts and runs every night through Saturday, Oct. 10.
