2017 Mar 7

Theron Baumann, a native of Madison, Wis., and graduate of Monona Grove High School, is one of eight members of the No. 2 ranked University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's track and field team who have officially qualified in nine events for the 2017 NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships.

The Championship meet will take place this Friday and Saturday, March 10-11 at North Central College in Naperville, Ill.

Baumann is majoring in social work at UW-Whitewater.

The Warhawk men placed second as a team at last year's NCAA Indoor Championship, and this year's strong group of qualifiers will again aim to compete for a national team title.

The Warhawk men are led this year by two-time indoor track and field All-American Parker Witt (Appleton, Wis./Appleton North), who qualifies in both the 60 meter dash and 200 meter dash. Witt is looking to defend his national title in the indoor 200 meter dash from a year ago and heads in to this year's championship as the top seed with his school record qualifying time of 21.76. In the 60 meter dash, Witt is ranked No. 2 with his qualifying time of 6.75.

Two-time indoor All-American Theron Baumann (Monona Grove, Wis./Monona Grove) has again qualified in the shot put. Looking to defend his national title in the event from a year ago, Baumann heads in to this year's championship as the No. 2 seed with his school record qualifying mark of 58-6.5 (17.84 meters).

Sixth in the shot put to earn All-American honors at last year's indoor championship, senior Levi Perry (East Moline, Ill./United Township) has again qualified in the event and enters the championship as the No. 2 seed with his qualifying mark of 63-9 (19.43 meters).

Junior and All-American Cameron Magee (Richland Center, Wis./Ithaca) and senior DuVaun Goodlow (Plainfield, Ill./Central) each qualified in the high jump for the Warhawks. Magee and Goodlow both head in to the championship ranked No. 8 with their qualifying marks of 6-9.5 (2.07 meters).

Rounding out the Warhawk men's qualifiers, an impressive three freshmen have qualified for this year's indoor championship. Freshman Zach Jasinski (Sussex, Wis./Hamilton) qualified in the pole vault with his school record and career-best qualifying mark of 16-1.25 (4.91 meters). Jasinski heads to the championship tied with four other individuals for the No. 10 mark. Christian Jackson (Milwaukee, Wis./Wauwatosa West) qualified in the 60 meter hurdles as the No. 13 seed with his qualifying time of 8.18. Jake Schneider (Plymouth, Wis./Plymouth) will join Witt in the 200 meter dash, and his qualifying mark of 22.16, set at last weekend's last chance meet, earns him the No. 13 seed in the event.

The 2017 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships will officially begin at North Central College on Friday, March 10 at 10 a.m. The Championship meet will be streamed online both days at ncaa.com.
