Madison McCarthy to perform in UW-Whitewater DanceScapes

2014 Apr 3

Madison McCarthy, a senior theatre major from Milton, Wis., will perform in the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater DanceScapes event.

DanceScapes is an annual performance that showcases the choreographic work of students and faculty. The performances include styles ranging from tap dance to hip-hop.

"I'm extremely proud of our students and the chances they are taking in both dancing and choreography," said Barbara Grubel, associate professor of dance and artistic director for DanceScapes. "The entire campus can benefit from attending this performance because watching another student's risk-taking may inspire another to do the same in their area of academia."

The planning process began in the fall when students applied to choreograph performances and entered open auditions. Dancers polished their performances during weeks of rehearsals.

"The art of dancing is one of the most challenging and vulnerable endeavors to pursue," Grubel said. "A large amount of personal exposure is required, allowing both the performers and viewers to learn about the minds and bodies of people."

DanceScapes opens on Sunday, April 6, at 2 p.m. in Barnett Theatre at the Greenhill Center of the Arts.
