2016 Nov 10

Tom Coull, a native of Leeds, England, and graduate of St. John Fisher High School, is a member of the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's soccer team, which will compete in the NCAA Division III Men's Soccer Championship starting this Saturday.

Coull, a sophomore at UW-Whitewater, is majoring in chemistry.

The No. 12 UW-Whitewater men's soccer team returns to competition Saturday, November 12 in the first round of the NCAA Division III Tournament where they will face Hanover (Ind.) at 7:30 p.m. at Carthage College in Kenosha, Wisconsin.

This is the third straight NCAA appearance for Head Coach Tony Guinn and the Warhawks, who have advanced to the second round in each of the last two seasons. Coach Guinn has led the Warhawks to 14 wins in each of the last three years.

The Warhawks, 13-4-3, enter the tournament on a six-game win streak but have not played since a 1-0 double-overtime victory over No. 23 Washington-St. Louis on October 23.

UW-W earned the only Pool B berth in the 61-team field.

The Warhawks are led by junior forward Dylan Hottsmith (DeKalb, Ill./DeKalb) who leads the team with nine goals. Senior teammate Justin Stanko (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles North), second on the team with six goals, is likely to return to the lineup for tournament play. Fellow senior Michael Salm (Grafton, Wis./Grafton) leads the team with nine assists; a majority of them coming off of throw-ins.

In net, Chris Lucatorto (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles East) will step onto the field boasting a 0.79 goals against average to go along with five shutouts this season. Lucatorto has started every game for the Warhawks and ranks 12th in the country for goalie minutes played.

Their opponent, Hanover College (Ind.), enters the tournament with a record of 16-4-0 after winning the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament to earn their program's first-ever trip to the NCAA Tournament.

The Panthers are led by seniors Matthew Eldridge, Enrico Franchini and Rafael Di Maio. Eldridge leads his squad with 13 goals while Franchini has notched 10 to go along with seven assists. Di Maio has tallied five shutouts and a remarkable 0.69 goals against average in sixteen games.

The teams share two common opponents this season, Carthage and Monmouth (Ill.). Both teams defeated Monmouth, UW-W by a score of 1-0 and Hanover by a tally of 3-0, while the Warhawks dropped their contest with Carthage 2-1 while Hanover won 4-1.

Saturday's match will be the first-ever meeting between UW-Whitewater and Hanover.

Carthage and Benedictine (Ill.) will play the other first round match at 5 p.m. with the winner's meeting on Sunday at 5 p.m.
