Larry West wins research grant from UW-Whitewater

2013 Dec 9

Larry West, a graduate student from Whitewater, Wis., has been awarded a research grant from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater.

The grants, which are worth up to $750, are intended for graduate students to carry out applied research in their field of study. A full proposal stating the potential significance and contributions of the project is required to be considered for the funding.

"This is a great opportunity for any graduate student to conduct research that will add to the collective knowledge of their field," said Seth Meisel, associate dean of the School of Graduate Studies and Continuing Education. "Employers are more encouraged to hire candidates that have completed and presented relevant research. These students are taking that opportunity."

West will research the transatlantic slave trade of the 1700s in relation to a business model and investigate the long-term global behavioral ramifications of this model in society today.

Funds are provided by the School of Graduate Studies and Continuing Education, and the Segregated University Fee Allocation Committee. Some of the projects will be presented to professional organizations in Wisconsin, Washington, D.C., and Spain.
