Kenosha's Humphreys Named ITA Scholar-Athlete for UW-Whitewater Tennis

Megan Humphreys, a native of Kenosha, Wis., graduate of Tremper Senior High School and member of the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater tennis program, was one of 15 Warhawks named 2017 Intercollegiate Tennis Association Scholar-Athletes.

Both the men's and women's teams were also tabbed All-Academic Teams by the ITA.

Seniors Megan Humphreys (Kenosha, Wis./Tremper), Rachel Siemon (Crystal Lake, Ill./South), juniors Alicia Beck (Bismarck, N.D./St. Mary's Central), Brittany Goebel (McHenry, Ill./West), Bridgid McGuire (Slinger, Wis./Slinger), Alexandra Talyansky (Mequon, Wis./Homestead), Jillian Wallace (Crystal Lake, Ill./Central) and freshman Madeline Slicker (Mequon, Wis./Homestead) of the women's team were honored by the ITA. Humphreys and Goebel are each two-time selections.

Juniors Zane Navratil (Racine, Wis./The Prairie School), Matt Zurowski (West Bend, Wis./East), sophomores Rory Calbria (Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove), Brandon Dechter (Mundelein, Ill./Carmel Catholic), Jimmy Engelhart (Brookfield, Wis./East) and freshmen Lucas Monterroso (Montevideo, Uruguay/Colegio Jesus Maria) and Matthew Primozic (Elkhart Lake, Wis./Plymouth) were recognized on the men's side. Navartil is now a three-time honoree, and Calabria, Dechter and Engelhart are all two-time ITA Scholar-Athletes.

Humphreys is majoring in elementary education.

To earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status, student-athletes must have been a varsity letter winner, maintained a grade point average of 3.50 on a 4.0 scale for the current academic year and been enrolled at their present school for at least two semesters.

The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to any ITA program that has a cumulative team GPA of 3.20 or above, including all varsity letter winners.

A total of 720 teams and 3,908 student-athletes across NCAA Division I, II and III, junior colleges and NAIA earned recognition, including 237 teams and 1,364 student-athletes at the Division III level.

The women finished the 2016-17 season ranked 25th in NCAA Division III by the ITA after reaching the second round of the NCAA Team Tournament for the ninth time in the last 10 years. The Warhawks won their 10th consecutive Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference championship and finished the season with a 20-8 record, including a 6-0 mark in WIAC play.

The men advanced to the second round of the NCAA Team Tournament for the eighth time in the last 11 years and tallied a 15-12 dual match record. UW-Whitewater was ranked No. 38 in the final ITA national poll.
