Kelly Foster Wins Conference Title With the Warhawks

2012 Nov 30

Kelly Foster and her fellow athletes on the UW-Whitewater women's tennis team are conference champions.

The Warhawks went 10-0 this fall, winning the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference tournament with the fourth-best performance in WIAC history.

This is the sixth consecutive WIAC championship for the Warhawks.

"The women have been surprisingly dominating this season after losing two top players, one of whom was the most decorated athlete in WIAC history. They have worked so hard during the off-season and have all improved. Coming in, the ladies knew they had big shoes to fill, but they have started right where we left off last year," said Frank Barnes, women's tennis coach.

The Warhawks filled all but one slot on the WIAC All-Conference team, with senior Sydney Divelbiss named WIAC Player of the Year. Divelbiss went 6-0 in singles and 5-0 in doubles with partner Alexandra Bayliss.

Foster, a senior psychology major from Glen Ellyn, Ill., and the rest of the team are gearing up for an even tougher spring schedule and their first Intercollegiate Tennis Association Indoor National Championships.

"It's going to be a great test for us in the spring to see how we match up against all of these nationally ranked Division I schools," said Barnes.
